The basic material and energy flow of photosynthesis--which drives the biosphere. Photosynthesis is approximately balanced by respiration. Material flows---carbon dioxide, water, oxygen, and carbohydrates---are closed-loop. This energy flow dwarfs all our industrial and transport power. It is resilient, reasonably secure and sustainable, and self-maintaining and self-reproducing.
